Works in marble and granite

Always deeply motivated by his desire to learn and explore new materials, Kieff moves to Pietra Santa, Italy, where he begins working on a series of pieces in Belgian black marble. The material’s subtleties and ease of treatment lend itself perfectly to his vision of an ideal finish. The amount of works created during this time was few, but they allowed him to meticulously study the ancient art of marble sculpting.

The knowledge gained there allows him to eventually turn to a much harder stone, black granite from Zimbabwe, one who’s physical properties could highlight concave and convex curves as well as the flat regions encountered in the artist’s now more defined esthetics. Once polished, the stone proportioned this finish Kieff was looking for.
